Neutral compensation in electrical substations

Petersen coils

Petersen coils are single-phase units and are used to ground the transformer neutral.

Thanks to a continuous variation of the inductance value obtained by means of a mobile core and a regulation via the control unit, it is possible to obtain resonance with the network capacity and continue to supply energy even in the event of a short circuit, thus bringing power interruptions almost to zero.

Typically installed on medium voltage lines (up to 36 kV – with a regulation range of 10%-100% of the current) they can be designed and manufactured according to customer specifications even for different and higher values.
